Report: Moldova to transfer money to Gazprom on Friday – official
CHISINAU, Nov 26 (PRIME) -- Moldova plans to transfer money to redeem debt to Russian gas giant Gazprom for the October and November supplies on Friday, Moldovan Deputy Prime Minister and Infrastructure Minister Andrei Spinu said in an interview to the N4 television channel broadcast late on Thursday.
Earlier in the day, parliament approved amendments to the 2021 budget in an emergency reading to allocate $74 million to cover the debt. Now President Maia Sandu is to sign them, after which the money will be transferred, he said.
“The decision to earmark the money was made by the national commission on emergency situations at the end of October, it would be wrong to say that we were late. Tomorrow the money will be transferred on time to Moldovagaz, and then the payment to Gazprom will be made, we will do it on time,” Spinu said.
On Monday, Gazprom said it had notified Moldova that it could suspend supplies in 48 hours unless the bill due on Monday is paid because a recent contract envisages 100% payment for the current bills.
